Tesla 's big miss on first-quarter deliveries is raising alarm even among some of the stocks most strident supporters. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, a long-time optimist about the automaker and its CEO Elon Musk, delivered a harsh review of the results on Tuesday morning. "While we were anticipating a bad 1Q, this was an unmitigated disaster 1Q that is hard to explain away. Otherwise, some darker days could clearly be ahead that could disrupt the long-term Tesla narrative," Ives said in a note to clients. "For Musk, this is a fork in the road time to get Tesla through this turbulent period otherwise troubling days could be ahead," Ives added.

A Tesla plant outside of Berlin was reportedly forced to halt production Tuesday after an electricity substation was set alight in a suspected arson attack. The Gruenheide factory, located southeast of the German capital, was left without power, as were parts of wider city, Reuters cited German newspaper Berliner Zeitung as saying. It comes as Tesla's expansion plans for its Gruenheide plant have come up against fierce opposition. However, last month locals voted down plans to raze nearby trees to make way for the enlarged plant.

Workers United claims Tesla is attempting to "discourage union activity," Bloomberg first reported. Spokespeople for Tesla and Workers United did not respond to a request for comment from Insider ahead of publication. In 2017, some Tesla workers sought to unionize with the help of the United Auto Workers Union (UAW), but the initiative was unsuccessful. More recently, the NLRB ruled in August that Tesla's policy that restricts workers from wearing a union insignia is "unlawful."

A major German union has criticized the working conditions at Tesla's giant Berlin plant. IG Metall said long hours mean workers have too little time for "leisure, family, and relaxation." At the conference, IG Metall, a German union representing workers at Tesla's Gigafactory has criticized the electric carmaker for poor working conditions, Reuters reported. Tesla did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, made outside normal US working hours. Tesla struggled to hire at the Berlin-based factory because of low wages, IG Metall told Bloomberg in June.
